GCF: not just railways

Significant presence in the High Voltage sector

Important confirmations in Italy and Europe for Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie also in the infrastructure sector for High Voltage energy transport. An industrial sector that has recently received a strong boost in GCF thanks to the acquisition, in May 2022, of Ferroli & C. Srl.

“The acquisition of new contracts in Switzerland and Germany for maintenance activities of electrical networks – explains Mattia Baraldi, Director of IS Technologies, Tlc, R&D, HV divisions at GCF and Chairman of the Board of Ferroli – confirms the positive growth trend of the company which, with the acquisition by GCF, has been able to benefit from an ambitious Industrial Plan aimed at strengthening and growing governance structures and production facilities.”

In particular, the acquisition of new, significant contracts rewards the important investments of the sole shareholder GCF in management, staff personnel, operational personnel, work equipment, and High Voltage equipment.

An industrial operation that has yielded numerous orders in Italy in the overhead power lines sector for Terna Rete Italia S.p.A - owner of the Italian electricity transmission network (RTN) in high and very high voltage and the largest independent transmission system operator (TSO) in Europe - for Edison S.p.A., as well as for other clients such as Sirti S.p.A., Colas Rail Italia S.p.A., and Spin S.p.A.

But that’s not all. The achievement of new orders abroad fully rewards the development strategy of partnerships with major foreign companies such as Cteam Consulting und Anlagenbau GmbH, in Germany, and Eduard Steiner AG, in Switzerland.

“From investments abroad, with ongoing Swiss and German projects – highlights President Mr. Baraldi – as well as from the imminent entry also into the HV underground cables sector following the Terna qualification request, currently being finalized, and the consolidated partnerships with economic operators in the railway sector, we expect a significant increase in revenues in the short term, further confirming the relevance of GCF-Ferroli in the overhead and underground power lines sector.”

Founded in 1948, Ferroli has been able, immediately after the war, to establish itself as an excellent interlocutor for SADE (manager of the HV network in the Triveneto area) and, following the nationalization of the network, for Enel. To date, the main activity of Ferroli & C. S.r.l. is the construction and maintenance of high voltage power lines. This activity, always carried out by few operators on the national territory due to its specificities and the high level of technical competence required, is recognized as a highly specialized sector.

Since 2005, the company has opened up to activities abroad by qualifying in Germany with DB Energie (Deutsche Bahn AG), manager of the railway electric network, and winning numerous tenders for the demolition and construction of new HV lines. At the same time, Ferroli has qualified in Austria with TIWAG (Tiroler Wasserkraft AG), manager of the electric network in Tyrol, where it carries out conductor and insulator replacement work for various clients.

Today, with its entry into the industrial group Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie S.p.A., Ferroli asserts its presence in national and international markets with greater strength and vitality.
