Master in Engineering Opens Applications

Scholarships from Railway Companies for the First 15 Applicants

Applications are open for the academic year 2024-2025 for the 2nd Level University Master's Program in Railway Infrastructure and Systems Engineering, organized by the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in collaboration with leading railway sector players.

The program aims to offer a multidisciplinary scientific specialization in the railway transport and mobility sector, equipping participants with knowledge applicable to the needs of public administrations, railway companies, engineering firms, research centers, and other organizations operating in the field.

A strong focus on integration with the supporting companies and excellent employment outcomes – over 500 graduates employed in top Italian railway companies, with a placement rate exceeding 90% – underscores the program’s effectiveness and sustained interest, with over 200 applications submitted on average in the past five editions.

The program is designed for graduates holding a second-level degree in Engineering. Preferred (but not exclusive) fields include electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical, safety, and transportation engineering, though applications from other disciplines, such as aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, automation, telecommunication, energy, management, and environmental engineering, are welcome.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, students expecting to graduate by March 31, 2025, may also apply.

A maximum of 35 participants will be admitted, selected based on their qualifications and an entrance exam assessing technical knowledge, English proficiency, and psycho-aptitude skills. The tuition fee is €3,000.

Partner companies are offering scholarships worth €3,000 gross to the top 15 candidates who attend at least 75% of the in-class teaching hours.

The 60-credit program includes 13 modules comprising 480 hours of training in Rome from February to October, delivered by university professors and managers from partner companies. Instruction includes lectures (in-person or online, in Italian and/or English), seminars, project work, site visits, and 250 internship hours at partner companies.

Topics covered include: Fundamentals of Railway Technology and Economics, Track and Fixed Installations, Traction Systems and Vehicle Dynamics, Infrastructure Design, Traffic Management, Railway Safety Management, Service Planning and Quality, Railway Project Planning and Legislation, Passenger and Freight Terminals, Freight Transport and Logistics, Project Evaluation and Environmental Impact, Corporate Culture.

This year, the course incorporates outcomes from the European STAFFER project (Skill Training Alliance for the Future European Rail System), co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ program, which developed training and international mobility programs in the railway sector.
