Bologna-Firenze High Speed line, Italy

Construction of the Bologna-Firenze High Speed line, Italy

Track

The railway line is double track equipped with Vignoles UNI 60 E 1 rails with standard gauge of 1,435 mm electrically welded, with prestressed reinforced concrete sleepers of 260 cm weighing 400 kg spaced 60 cm apart and Pandrol elastic fastening. The track spacing is 5 meters.

Electric Traction

The line is electrified with a voltage of 2x25 kV in alternating current at a frequency of 50 hertz, between the Bologna San Ruffillo station and that of Firenze Castello. On the remaining route and along the interconnections the power supply is in direct current at 3,000 V.

Signalling system

For the “train spacing” system the new ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 technology (European Rail Traffic Management System/European Train Control System) is used, for interoperability between European railway lines.
