Construction of the Roma-Napoli High Speed line, Italy
Railway Track
The line is a double-track railway equipped with Vignoles UNI 60 E 1 rails, electrically welded and Pandrol elastic fastening. Those of the PM Salone - 1st Gricignano junction section rest on prestressed reinforced concrete sleepers 260 cm long, weighing 400 kg and spaced 60 cm apart. Those of the Gricignano - Casoria section are supported by sleepers type FS brand 230 and FS brand 260. The gauge is 1,435 mm. The minimum curve radius is 5,450, the track spacing is five meters and the base design speed has been set at 300 km/h..
electric traction
Traction is electric in alternating current with voltage at 2x25 kV and frequency at 50 Hz. Power supply is guaranteed by five electrical substations (SSE) located near Anagni, Gallicano, San Giovanni, Salone and Vairano Patenora. The three interconnections with the Roma - Napoli (via Cassino) and the terminal interconnection with the Napoli-Foggia are instead electrified at 3 kV in direct current.
Signalling system
For the “train spacing” system, ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 technology is used. The system, through a dedicated GSM network, manages the train movement authorization. The line is therefore composed of different radio block sections. Thanks to this system, the line is interoperable, in other words it allows the circulation of European high-speed trains.
