Lot 2 of the Rail Route 10 Project предусматриes the complete renewal of the railway section between Fushë Kosovë and, heading northwards, Mitrovica.
As set out in the project approved by Infrakos, the works are aimed at the full reconstruction of 34.4 km of main railway line and 9.1 km of station tracks and switches, as well as the rehabilitation of approximately 18 km of road network running parallel and transversal to the railway line (service roads or roads affected by the 32 level crossings).
Significant works concern the 16 existing bridges – many of which are steel structures, while others are masonry bridges – in order to bring them into compliance with interoperability standards and the requirements of the Eurocodes and TSIs. Some bridges will be upgraded through appropriate strengthening measures, while others – the majority – will be demolished and rebuilt.
Numerous hydraulic works are also planned, in addition to 52 underground culverts.
A specific “rehabilitation” effort concerns the 5 stations (Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Druar, Prelluzhe, Obiliq-Kastriota) and the 5 stops (Frasher, Pantine, Vernice, Mihaliq, Plemetin) located along the railway segment.
These works include the refurbishment of station buildings, the construction of 16 passenger platforms ranging from 150 to 200 metres in length and equipped with canopies and benches, as well as access ramps, stairways and underpasses, level crossings, loading platforms, underpasses, passenger areas (ticket offices, toilets, waiting areas) and accommodation facilities for staff.
