Tram Line T2 Bergamo – Villa d’Almè, Italy

The T2 Line from Bergamo to Villa d’Almè runs along the former Valle Brembana Railway corridor, crosses five municipalities and serves a population of over 240,000 inhabitants.

The contract, signed in early July 2023 with TEB (Tramvie Elettriche Bergamasche), provides that the consortium awarded the tender (Impresa Milesi geom. Sergio, G.C.F. Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie, Skoda Transportation and Impresa Edile Stradale Artifoni) also ensures safety coordination during the design phase, as well as the supply and equipping of the tram vehicles.

GCF is specifically responsible for the construction of the trackwork, the electric traction system and the planned electrical substations, the signalling systems and all project-related plant engineering works.

Features of Line T2

The route extends for 11.5 km and, in the initial urban section, shares the alignment and the two existing stops (Borgo Palazzo and San Fermo) of Line T1. From the subsequent new Bronzetti stop, an interchange point between the two tram lines, T2 continues along the route of the former Valle Brembana Railway, which was decommissioned in 1966.

A total of 17 stops are planned: 9 in Bergamo, 2 in Ponteranica, 2 in Sorisole, 2 in Almè and 2 in Villa d’Almè. The project also includes provisions for two additional stops, linked to urban regeneration works in the former Reggiani area in Bergamo and the Gres area in Sorisole.

The entire line is double-track, with the exception of the existing Ramera tunnel (Ponteranica) and the historic bridge known as Rino (Villa d’Almè).
For 95% of its length, Line T2 runs along a preferential route on a protected right of way, with 23 at-grade crossings for road and pedestrian traffic.

In Bergamo, the project includes the construction of new tunnels (Pontesecco), overpasses (S. Antonio) and underpasses (Viale Giulio Cesare), designed to ensure alignment continuity and smooth traffic flow.
