For the client RFI - Florence Territorial Infrastructure Operations Department, Sveco, as lead member of the temporary joint venture with SISCOM, carried out the structural strengthening of the existing abutments and the replacement of the bridge deck of the “Ponte al Pino” railway overpass (km 0+701, Firenze Statuto - Firenze Campo di Marte section), a late-19th-century structure connecting the city centre with the Campo di Marte area.
The contract, awarded under an RFI framework agreement for the extraordinary maintenance of civil works, included detailed design and execution of the works.
The new steel-concrete composite deck, 32 m long and 16 m wide and weighing approximately 550 tonnes, was installed in a single operation during the night of 26-27 July 2026 using a 2,000-tonne crane, within an 84-hour railway traffic possession. The bridge, retaining three traffic lanes and including pavements and a shared pedestrian and cycle path, was reopened to traffic in September 2026.
The project, aimed at improving safety, accessibility and urban mobility, was considered, due to its high technical and organisational complexity, one of the most complex engineering operations carried out in recent years in the city of Florence..

• structural strengthening of the existing abutments, reinforcement of pier caps and bearings, and restoration of the façades
• a 44-metre temporary pedestrian walkway serving the city throughout the construction period
• demolition of the existing bridge and relocation of utility services
• construction of the launching platform, assembly and launching of the new bridge deck
• new road pavement and improvement works on Via degli Artisti, Piazza Giorgio Vasari and Via Pacinotti.
