Passo Corese Railway Bridge Replacement

Passo Corese Railway Bridge

Replacement of the railway bridge at km 36+780 - Passo Corese, Fara in Sabina (RI)

In 2024, Sveco carried out, for the client RFI, the replacement of the steel bridge structure at km 36+780 on the Rome-Florence line (Slow Line), over Fosso Corese, near the railway station.

The existing structure, based on design documentation dating back to 1968 and in an advanced state of deterioration, was replaced by a new steel bridge structure weighing approximately 450 tonnes, 31 m long and 14.86 m wide, which was installed on 7 July 2024.

The works

• new reinforced-concrete abutments on micropiles, constructed without interrupting railway operations, using retaining walls and a temporary bridge supporting the track
• a launching platform of approximately 550 m³, founded on 147 micropiles, each 21 m long, to accommodate the 1,250-tonne lattice crawler crane
• pre-assembly in the workshop and on-site installation of the new bridge structure
• bridge launching during a single 100-hour total railway traffic possession, followed by inspection of bearings and seismic restraints, waterproofing and installation of expansion joints.
