GCFe is an Italian company specialized in the design, construction, commissioning, renewal and maintenance of “turnkey” technological systems for High-Speed lines, traditional lines, urban transport systems, metro and trolley-tram systems.
A century-long history
The company was founded in 1926 when SAE, Società Anonima Elettrificazione, began the electrification works of the double-track railway line Bolzano – Brennero. Over the years, acquisitions, mergers and incorporations into large industrial groups in the energy sector (ABB, Alpiq) and infrastructure and transport (Balfour Beatty, Colas Rail) have marked the key stages of a long path that, in 2024, led to its entry into the GCF – Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie Group.
Main competences
The core business and the specialist competence in the electric traction systems market have remained the distinctive feature of the company identity, which over the years has been able to enrich and innovate itself continuously.
Today GCFe provides complete, efficient and safe technological solutions for High-Speed lines, traditional lines as well as urban, metro and tram transport systems: standard and tailor-made contact lines, electrical substations, HV/MV power lines and cable ducts, electromechanical systems and auxiliary systems, SCADA, telecommunications, automation and control, tunnel safety systems, design services and operational support.

Work equipment
The company has more than 130 railway vehicles owned for construction, maintenance and diagnostics of electric traction lines: rail trolleys, tensioning bridges, aerial platforms, motorized recovery units, brake units, flat wagons, plants for concrete production of CLS and mixers, Mensor® catenary measurement system, hybrid platform for railway works, road-rail vehicles, equipment for civil works.

Public Works Qualifications
Within the requirements necessary for participation and execution of public tenders, we hold SOA certification for categories relating to electrical systems, technological and electromechanical systems, electric traction systems and telecommunications networks, valid at national level.

Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie Elettriche has as references in ethical matters the Organizational, Management and Control Model pursuant to Legislative Decree 231/01 and the Code of Ethics.
The Code of Ethics clearly and transparently expresses the set of values to which GCFe is inspired, summarizes the responsibilities of the Company in achieving business objectives and fully incorporates both the provisions of the GCF Group Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie and the dictates of Legislative Decree 231/01.
